Does Avira Antivirus work in offline mode?

R
Answer by Robert Polubinski

Yes, the application works in offline mode, but many users considered this as being an issue. Technically, the offline mode activates itself when there is a problem reaching the update servers. The fix is by re-installing the application. If you disconnect from the Internet, the application will work in offline mode.

If by offline you mean "without Internet", then yes, the application will work that way too, but the updates need to be applied manually.

Can Avira Antivirus work without Internet?

Answer by Stephen Prastman

Yes, the Avir Antivirus will work without Internet, but you will lack the most important feature: updates. Although you'll have basic pc protection, without updates, an antivirus becomes obsolete extremely fast, unless you find a way to apply updates manually downloaded on another computer.

You can use the following guide in order to update the antivirus manually: http://www.avira.com/en/support-vdf-update-info

The best way to test the performance of an antivirus is by initiating a FULL SYSTEM SCAM with all the advanced options activated. This is the first test to determine the scan speed and the way it detects possible infected applications.

Secondly, start the application without enabling gamer modes or something related, and start a resource demanding game. If there is a big impact on your game's performance, although you have a fast computer, then you can tell there is a problem with the antivirus and it needs replacing with another one.

After all these tests you can conclude which is the best for your computer.

When I start my PC, the Avira system tray tool is missing and I think the Avira antivirus stopped working. Help me, please!

Go to Control Panel and access Add/Remove Programs. Select Avira from the list and click Remove but don't proceed to its actual uninstall. Choose repair and let the installation finish the process. Restart the computer and observe its behavior. If the issue persists, try re-installing the whole antivirus.

If you have problems downloading Avira Antivirus, I strongly recommend on using the direct download URL: Download.

Click the link and save the file and if you're using a download accelerator, make sure to disable it although I have never had problems downloading the Avira package.
